  • Does a metal roof cost more than a typical roof?
Because metal roofing is a premium home product, you can expect your roof to cost roughly 25% more what an asphalt shingle roof cost. However, a metal roof is comparable in price to tile roofing or cedar shake roofing. If you currently have a slate roof, you can expect your metal roof to cost less. No matter what kind of metal roofing style you choose, you will never have to worry about your roof again. Shingle Roof cost over 50 years* Metal Roof cost over 50 years* *Cost of material only
  • Advantages of metal tile panels over conventional roofing products.
Asphalt shingles, though reasonable priced, but do not deliver the best in looks or performance. The average weight is twice as much as metal roof. With metal roofing, weight on a structure in never an issue. Metal Roofs are very though and highly resistant to hail damage, much more then asphalt shingles. Metal Roofs are fire and wind resistant. Class 4 as to impact resistance (UL2218) Metal Roofs are excellent on wind 140 mph, shingles on other hand; only 60 mph. Metal Roof are lightweight which eliminate structure sagging, they are also beautiful and functional where no maintenance required, as well a long-term investment. How would you feel having to do your shingle roof over and over every 10-15 years? With Metal Roofing you do not have to worry. Longevity is one of the top reasons consumer report choosing metal roofing got their home. But it is not just the dependability that people love about long-living metal roofing; it's the low life cycle cost. Shingle Roof cost over 50 years Metal Roof cost over 50 years
  • Is the metal roof noisy?
It is one of the most frequent asked questions about metal roofing. The variation of sound pressure, as it relates to rain on a metal roof, is dependent upon various factors. The most important factor relates to the method of construction. What that means....A metal roof installed over open framing will register a louder sound than panels that are installed over a solid deck. The roof deck literally absorbs or muffles the sound. A study was conducted to determine the amount of sound emitted when rain falls on various roofing materials. The study concluded that metal did not register a significant higher sound label than shingle. In fact, the sound differential between shingle and metal was only 6dB.
  • Is Metal Roof environmentally responsible?
Not only is metal roof being great for your home, it is great for the environment. The recycled content of the steel in a metal roof is about 28% from production to reuse - far superior to asphalt. According to the National Association of Homebuilders Research Center, 20 billion pounds of asphalt shingles are dumped into U.S. landfills every year. If you loaded those shingles into tractor trailers, then line them up end-to-end, they would make a line from New York to Los Angeles, and back to New York City.
  • Is the metal roof good for snow?
Metal Roofs Sheds snow fast, which protects the structral integrity of the roof. Metal can also eliminate ice damming at the eves, so water cannot back up and collect under the roof then into your home. Snow guards are suggested, and installed on the roof preventing rapid snow slides which is dangerous movement of snow and ice. It allows snow to melt completely or drop off in small amounts.
  • How will a Metal Roof stand up to extreme weather?
A metal roof can withstand decades of abuse from extreme weather like high winds, heavy snow, hailstorms and even wildfires. Metal roofing has a 140-mph wind rating, meaning it can withstand wind gusts up to 140 miles per hour. Metal roofing system have wind resistance and uplift resistance that is above the new building code requirement. That gives us a sense of relief in that we can use the best material to meet those criteria. In location where we see heavy snow, metal roofing has been the choice of homeowners for years. It sheds snow fast, which protects the structural integrity of the roof. And it can eliminate ice damming at the eves, so water cannot back and collect under the roof then leak into your home.
  • Metal Roof and Hail damage
Most of the damage to a traditional roof in a hailstorm caused by water damage to the contents of the house when shingles are fractured. Once a roof has a crack, water can stream into the home, damaging the structure and its contents. Water damage can lead to mold and serious repair bills. Metal roofs are very tough and highly resistant to hail damage. Hail will not penetrate a metal roof. Even a new asphalt shingle roof won't protect a home from the next hailstorm. In fact, many metal roofing products have the highest impact resistance and hail rating (Class 4). Some insurance companies provide a reduced rate for metal roofs. Class 4 as to impact resistance (UL 2218)
  • Is metal roofing noisier in bad weather than asphalt, cedar shake, tile and slate roofing?"
When installed with solid sheathing a metal roof on your home will silence noise from rain, hail and bad weather as well-if not better-than any other roofing material. A metal roof installed over open framing will register a louder sound than panels that are installed over a solid deck. The roof deck literally absorbs or muffles the sound. A study was conducted to determine the amount of sound emitted when rain falls on various roofing materials. The study concluded that metal did not register a significant higher sound label than shingle. In fact, the sound differential between shingle and metal was only 6dB.
  • Energy savings
Metal roof helps to reduce the energy consumption as will require less air conditioning in the summer and less heat in winter, which will save you on energy cost. More and more homeowners are seeking out energy-saving building materials for their renovations and new homes. Products that not only secure and improve structures but also provide log-term cost-cutting on energy bills while promoting environmental and economic sustainability in the greater community. Among the array of possible upgrades, "cool metal roofing" easily answer this consumer demand offering a solid, attractive roofing solution available in multiple colors, textures, and profiles, for steep-slop and low-slope applications, that can save your household up to 40% of its annual energy costs, depending on your geographical region.
  • Is a Metal Roof too heavy for certain types of homes, or for smaller structures like a detached garage or a porch?"
On average, metal roof is 50% lighter than an asphalt shingle roof, and 75% lighter than concrete tile, fiber cement, shake or slate. With metal roofing, weight on a structure is never an issue.
  • Are you concern about metal roof not matching your home or business?
Residential or commercial buildings look excellent with metal roofing material. Metal roofing are made to look exactly like a common roofing material; such as asphalt shingles, cedar shake, clay tile or slate roofing. Metal Roof is much stronger and durable.
  • How much longer will a metal roof last than common roofing like asphalt or wood shingle?
To put it in context, the average life span of an asphalt roof is 12 to 20 years. That lifespan can be shorter depending on the pitch of your roof and the climate in your area. Made of oil impregnated paper or fiberglass, asphalt begins to deteriorate as soon as you expose to normal weather. A metal roof, however, will never decompose. You can expect a metal roof to last at least 5 to 7 times longer than a regular roof. In general terms, count on a metal roof lasting 50 years and beyond.
  • What kind of sealant tape is USA Metal Roof using?
USA metal Roof uses AST Hi-Acrylic metal roof and building sealants in all applications where the material will be allowed to expand to fill voids or follow panel contours. AST Hi-Acrylic is a self-adhering tape seal made from resistant, open-cell polyurethane foam impregnated with a water-based acrylic-modified asphalt emulsion and then compressed to a sealing density level appropriate to the application. Typically, higher compression levels are required for water tightness in water run-off applications; lower compression can be used. AST Hi-Acrylic replaces and outperforms liquid and butyl-tape sealants as well as closed-cell and unimpregnated open-cell foam closures. AST sealant type is used to seal dust, air, wind-driven snow, and moisture through joint details in metal buildings and roofs.AST Hi-Acrylic is ideal as a filler in expansion/contraction joints subject to movement from thermal expansion and contraction, and as a gasket in mechanically fastened, non-moving applications such as lap seams. AST Hi-Acrylic is suitable for use against metal, plastic, wood, concrete, and other materials common in metal building structures. AST Hi-Acrylic * Will not dry out and become hard and brittle * UV-stable * Highly resistant to bugs and vermin * Will not extrude from between joints like caulk or butyl tapes * Conforms to contours and fills gaps * Maintains a seal during thermal expansion and contraction of building panels * Excellent compressibility and recovery (minimal compression set) * Good thermal and sound insulator * No shrinkage or blow-out due to closed-cell breakage * Supplied with self-adhesive on one side. After removal of packaging, material begins gradual expansion-more slowly in cold weather than in hot. -Watertight up to 5 PSF per ASTM E-331 modified to run 24 hours instead of standard 15 minutes. This equates to a 1-inch standing head of water for 24 hours without leakage.
  • Best waterproofing underlayment
MFM HT Wind and Water Seal is a self-adhering waterproof underlayment composed of a white, non-slip cross-laminated polymer film, laminated to a high temperature rubberized aggressive asphalt adhesive. A split release liner protects the adhesive and is removed as the underlayment is installed. The advanced system bonds to the substrate to limit the damage caused by water penetration or leaks. Ultra HT is ideal for secondary water resistance. How to use this type of underlayment? Whole-roof underlayment for shingle, metal, tile or shake roofing. Use in valleys, ridges, around the chimney an at eaves for protection against ice dams and wind-driven rain. Easy and friendly installation * Apply in clear, dry weather at temperatures above 50F * Surface must be clean, dry and free from oil-broom substrate clean and apply the product * Clean, dry wood and metal surface do not require priming * Prime masonry, weathered OSB, aged metal and concrete surface with an MFM - approved primer- masonry must be fully cured * Apply uniform pressure with a 2-3"hand roller to the seams and overlaps * Minimum roof slope of 2:12 is required (some code approvals require a minimum slope of 3:12 - check your local building codes for required roof slope) * Do not install over solvent-based sealants unless fully cured - active solvents may liquefy bottom adhesive surface * Membrane should not be folded over roof edge unless covered by a gutter, mechanically fastened every 6" or protected with other flashing materials * Ultra HT Wind and Water Seal is a vapor barrier - allow for proper ventilation of the ridge and soffit * Do not expose to direct sunlight for more than 90 days Approvals MFM Ultra HT is tested to ASTM D 1970, Florida Building Code FL#11842.5, Miami-Dade County Approved, ICC-EC ESR 1737, Texas Department of Insurance listed, and CCMC 14048-L Price MFM Ultra HT underlayment comes in 200sqft rolls and covers 160sqft Each roll cost $110
